Jake was born and raised in Wright County, Missouri, and graduated from Plato High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Azalee McCoy, September 25, 1950, in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Twin children were born to this union, Diane and Michael. Jake served his country in the United States Army, from 1952 to 1954, during the Korean Conflict.

Jake was saved and baptized as a young man. He was a longtime member and deacon of Manes Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and collecting farm equipment. He farmed all of his life, both beef and dairy farming. Jake and Azalee checked and fed cows together almost every day. He enjoyed working and loved his farm. He was not one to sit around the house. He stayed busy and worked on the farm until his final day. Jake enjoyed having company over to visit, being with his family, and enjoyed telling stories.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Kermit Fletcher, Normice Fletcher, and Kirby Fletcher, three sisters, Glandean Branstetter, LaVerne Rumfelt, and Jewell Foley, and one granddaughter, Lori Lewis.

Jake is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Azalee Fletcher, of the home, one son, Michael Fletcher and his wife, Teresa, of Manes, Missouri, one daughter, Diane Suichta and her husband, Stan, of Evans, Colorado, one brother, Ralph Fletcher and his wife, Wanda, of Manes, Missouri, granddaughter, Kayla Murr and her husband, Michael, their children, Tristan James and Madison Nicole Murr, granddaughter, Arlene Morrell and her husband, Kent, five more great-grandchildren, Brandon, Braeden, Kyanne, Seth, and Sheville, five great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him.
