Teddy was born in Chickasaw Nation to William Henry Harrison Etier and his wife Mary Elizabeth Cutbirth. He married Martha Esther 'Mattie' Lewis on June 12, 1908 in Grady County, Oklahoma. Their daughter Mable Marie was born in 1910 in Marlow. Teddy Oscar Jr was born in 1912 . Teddy Sr was a farmer when he died from Typhoid Fever at the age of 22. His son Teddy Jr died 19 August 1914. Teddy was born the year his father William began working at Fort Sill Military Reservation in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory (Oklahoma). Basically growing up on the reservation Ted did not cut his hair, but instead grew it to his waist.
