Motel Swim Pool

DUBUQUE - Jacob Fridsma, 41, Bellflower, Cal., drowned while swimming in the Holiday Inn pool Wednesday night, county medical examiner Dr. Donald McFarlane said.

Fridsma, his wife and three daughters had stopped at the motel while on a vacation trip.

Witnesses said they heard Fridsma, a mailman, call for help while swimming in the pool. Then he went under. The body was recovered almost immediately, but attempts to revive him failed.

Dubuque county Medical Examiner Dr. Donald McFarlane said Fridsma apparently drowned but he ordered an autopsy.
