Floyd E. "Cecil" Confer, 89, of 619 South Kendall Ave., Bradford, passed away, Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at the Bradford Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family.
Born on March 3, 1929, in Dallas City, he was a son of the late Charles and Bernice (Spangler) Confer. Cecil attended Lee Driver Elementary School and graduated from Bradford High School.
On November 15, 1950 he enlisted in the United States Army, served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a Corporal on November 10, 1952.
On July 22, 1961 in Smethport, he married Carolyn Rose (Covert) Confer who survives.
He was a member and former head usher of Sawyer Evangelical Church. He along with members of the church traveled on two Mission trip to Honduras.
Cecil had been employed at Kendall Refining Company in the maintenance department for nearly 40 years.
He was a member of the Duke Center Masonic Lodge #555 F & AM, the Kendall Quarter Century Club, the Kendall bowling and golf leagues, and the Hanley Park Horseshoe League. He served as the Republican Committeeman for Foster Township for many years.
In addition to his wife Carolyn of 56 years, are two daughters, Karen L. Confer, of Bradford, and Laura J. (Robert J.) Lehnert, of Wilkes Barre; two grandchildren, Robert C. Lehnert and Katie J. Lehnert; one sister, Lois June McGuire, of Bradford; sister-in-law Catherine "Sis" Covert Ferman, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers William and Marion and one sister Nellie Confer.
Family will be receiving friends on Saturday, May 26, 2018 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Sawyer Evangelical Church where funeral services will be held 11:00am with Rev. Robert Brest, pastor of the First Free Methodist Church officiating. Military Honors and committal services will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 10:00am in Rosehill Cemetery in Smethport by members of the funeral detail at the American Legion Post #108 of Bradford.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.
