SALT LAKE CITY - Erma Allred Barton, 69, of Salt Lake City, died Friday, April 26, 1985 in Salt Lake City.
She was born April 24, 1916 in Provo to Carl and Ruth Justesen Allred. She married Donald K. Barton, June 2, 1939 in the Manti Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She graduated from North Sanpete High School in Mt. Pleasant and attended Snow College, the University of Utah, and the University of Iowa.
She was an accomplished musician and had studied with Lavar Jensen of New York City and Alexander Schreiner of Salt Lake City. She had made contributions to the preparation of a new LDS hymnal for French-speaking countries.
She was employed as a secretary for various firms in Salt Lake City. She was most recently employed as a court clerk.
She was a member of the LDS Church. She had served as a Relief Society president, as a teacher, as ward organist, and as a full-time missionary. She and her husband had served in the student stakes at the University of Utah. She served in the Belgium Brussels Mission where her husband was president.
Survivors include her husband; two sons and two daughters, Eric D. Barton, Carl W. Barton, Dr. C. David (Suzanne) Hansen, and Mrs. Henry (Valerie) Youngstrom, all of Salt Lake City; 10 grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. William Berg (Geniel) Prestwich of Salt Lake City.
Services will be Tuesday at noon at the Millcreek Ninth LDS Ward Church, Salt Lake City. Burial will be in the Wasatch Lawn Cemetery in Salt Lake City.
