Mrs. Mary Anne Painter Leatham, 78, life-long respected resident of Wellsville, died early Sunday of heart trouble, at her home. She suffered a stroke Saturday and lived only a few hours.

Mrs. Leatham was born in Wellsville, September 3, 1862, a daughter of William and Elizabeth Bradshaw Painter, who came her shortly after crossing the plains as handcart pioneers. She married John Steele Leatham December 12, 1879 in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City, returning to live in Wellsville where she has spent a lifetime of service. Mr. Leatham died nineteen years ago. They were parents of 14 children, 7 of whom are still living.

Surviving are her children: Mrs. Frances Pitts of Salt Lake City, Robert P. Leatham, and John P. Leatham of Wellsville, Mrs. Harold Swift of Preston, Mrs. J.E. Crossman of Brigham City, Mrs. Kenneth Pitcher of Logan, and Mrs. Parley Cronquist of North Logan; one sisters, Mrs. Emma Broadbent of Cardston, Canada, and one brother, George Painter of Thornton, Idaho. She has 29 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Wellsville Second ward chapel.
