Born and reared in Spartanburg County, SC; daughter of Enoch Lawrence (1858–1939) and James Anna Gowan Lawrence (1862–1934); wife of George Franklin Settle (1874–1950).

A member of Inman Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Lawrence Enoch "Jerry" Settle (1917–1975); daughters, Gillie Jean Settle Rector (1906–1982) and Kate Settle Hughes (1912–2010); brothers, John Thomas Lawrence (1882–1963) and Herman Enoch Lawrence (1901–1986); sisters, Orajanettie Lawrence Underwood (1887–1959), Fannie Dora Lawrence Blackwell (1892–1970), and Carrie Esther Lawrence Waters (1896–1992).

Also predeceased by sons, John Morgan Settle (1905–1947), Herbert George Settle (1910–1953); and siblings, Cordelia Lawrence Leonard (1878–1953), Wavy Lee Lawrence Littlefield (1880–1912), Exie Mamie Lawrence Bishop (1889–1942)

Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 pm, Sunday, at First Baptist Church by Rev. J.E. Lehman and Rev. Guy Lawson; burial in the church cemetery.
