Burnie Richard Akin of Newbern, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. His wife and children were with him as he left this world peacefully.

Burnie was born on April 17, 1928. He was the son of the late Aaron and Edna Akin of Newbern, Tennessee. He is survived by his wife of seventy three years, Sue Austin Akin. Burnie and Sue have four children: Diane Akin Ross of Newbern, Tennessee, Tippy Yarbrough (Theron) of Newbern, Tennessee, Tina Reynolds (David) of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Tim Akin (Ellen) of Newbern, Tennessee. Daddy Burn, as Burnie had been lovingly called for forty nine years, had thirteen grandchildren: Rob Anderson, Steve Anderson (Stephanie), Robin Ross Alford (Paul), Clint Ross, Tracy Coleman (Christie), Eric Coleman (Jennifer), Trevor Yarbrough (Michelle), Richie Berry (Kelly), Brad Berry (Christy), Jennifer Reynolds Wylie (Justin), Jonathan Reynolds, Megan Akin McDaniel (Mark) and Mallory Akin Blurton (David). He had twenty six great-grandchildren with one due in September and a first great-great-grandchild due in June.

Burnie built Akin Body Shop in Newbern in 1958 which is now owned by his son, Tim.

Burnie gave his life to the Lord at the tender age of ten. He joined Newbern First Baptist Church when he was twelve, where he was an active and loved member. Through the years, Burnie served as a deacon and choir member. He was a member of the Gideon Men's Sunday School Class.

In addition to being a loving husband, a cherished Daddy, Granddad and faithful Christian, Burnie was a man of many talents and hobbies. He and Sue were members of the Newbern Saddle Club, they enjoyed square dancing and camping. He taught himself the trade of stained glass and woodworking. He was a gardening enthusiast.

Burnie's greatest treasure was his family. He told his family at his 90to birthday celebration in April: " Without my family, I am nothing." Daddy Burn will be missed.

Funeral services for Mr. Burnie will be 11:00 AM on Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Newbern First Baptist Church. Officiating this service will be Bro. Danny Klutts, Bro. Mike McCullough and Mrs. Ellen Akin. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee.

Pallbearers will be Rob Anderson, Steve Anderson, Tracy Coleman, Eric Coleman, Richie Berry, Brad Berry, Clint Ross and Trevor Yarbrough.
