She was the widow of Stavros Livanos, one of the wealthiest Greek shipowners, and she was mother-in-law of two other powerful shipowners, Aristotle Onassis and Stavros Niarchos. Of her two daughters, who are now dead, Eugenia was the wife of Mr. Niarchos, until he divorced her to marry Charlotte Ford, and Athina (Tina) was first wed to Mr. Onassis, was later the Marquess of Blandford, and finally, after her sister's death in 1970, was married to Mr. Niarchos. Mrs. Livanos and her husband, who were both born on the Greek island of Chios, lived mostly at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan from 1940 to 1962, but their permanent home was in Paris. The offices of the Livanos family enterprise, Ocean Tankers Ltd., were in New York and London. Services were held at the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Gerasimos in Lausanne. She was buried there beside her husband and daughters.
