John William Britton, 87, passed away in the Avalon Care Center, in Pullman, Washington on Sunday, 13 November 2016.

John was born in Canon City, Colorado on Thursday, 27 December 1928, to Joel F. and Mary Alice "Mattie" (Adams) Britton.

He married the former Betty Elenor Marr in Florence, Colorado on Sunday, 24 January 1971. They became the parents of four children.

John had served in the United States Navy from 1950 - 1952. While in the Navy, he proudly served on the USS Magoffin APA 199, until his honorable discharge. Upon his return home, John and Betty moved to Spirit Lake, and then to Endicott, where John did concrete work on the Lower Granite Dam.

We could always find John fishing near his work site with Betty and the kids in tow. He loved taking his family camping during the summer and enjoyed taking the boys hunting. After John retired, he and Betty spent the bulk of their time camping and fishing.

John was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He had a real knack for making friends wherever he went, with all types of people. As a volunteer at the Central Ferry Park which he was for many years, John became friends with everyone he met. When he moved to Harrison, Idaho in his later years, his circle of friends expanded even more. That circle grew even wider with his move to Clark Place in Moscow, Idaho as, once again, the many people he met also became his friends. It seemed that no matter where John went, he touched many lives and was proud to call each person his friend.

Left to cherish his memory are John's children, Becky, of Endicott, Washington; Donald, of Harrison, Idaho; Leo, of Barstow, California; and Jimmie, of Colfax, Washington; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and four of his seven elder siblings, Alice Shellnutt, Doris Ozbrin, Dorothy Look, and Josephine Welch.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Betty M. Britton; his parents, Joel F. and Mary Alice (Adams) Britton, along with three siblings, Mary Kate Phillips, H. Margaret Clevenger and Newton E. Wheeler.

Graveside services were held at 10 A.M., Saturday, 26 November 2016, in the Endicott Cemetery in Endicott, Washington.

For those wishing to do so, John's family suggests memory contributions be made in his name to either the Arthritis Foundation or Wounded Warriors, or a another charity of your choice.

Arrangements and publication entrusted to the Bruning Funeral Home, of Colfax, Washington.
