Austin Hannahs was born July 17, 1927, in Calais, Monroe County, Ohio, son of the late John Miles and Susan Wava (Hayes) Hannahs.

He was a 1945 graduate of Sarahsville High School and was a United States Air Force veteran, having served from September 1, 1945, to March 28, 1948. Austin was employed as a press operator for JPI in Caldwell, retiring on March 22, 1990.

Austin was a member of the Mt. Ephraim United Methodist Church for over 60 years, and as an active member held several offices in the church. Earlier in his life he enjoyed playing softball, including playing in the military where he was a Most Valuable Player and a member of a championship team in Europe during his service. He enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and the Cincinnati Reds. Austin was devoted to his family, especially to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Mendenhall) Hannahs, whom he married March 31, 1950, and who died December 22, 2016; one sister, Frances Stoner; and one brother, John Emerson Hannahs.
