June White McCormick, 90, daughter of the late George Clifton White and Anita Noble White, died May 27, 2018 after a brief illness.

June was raised in Helena, Arkansas. She earned her undergraduate degree at Southwestern at Memphis and Masters in education at Memphis State University. June began her career working for the US Department of State in Washington, DC and continued her work for the State Department as a cryptographer in Central America. She went on to teach in Memphis City Schools, where she also served as a supervisor of their federal projects.

Known dearly to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as "Nonnie," June was steadfastly devoted to family and friends. She welcomed every person she met with open arms and a loving heart. In short, she epitomized what is kind and good in this world.

June absolutely loved the written word. She will be remembered as a voracious reader, master of crossword puzzles, and consummate editor. She never encountered a publication she couldn't edit, including The Commercial Appeal.

A resident of Trezevant Terrace for the last five years, June cherished her friendships with fellow residents and staff members. Her family extends their gratitude for the care and kindness of the Trezevant staff.

June was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Matthew McCormick, and her granddaughter, Amelia Russell Wood. She is survived by her daughters, Mary McCormick Wood (Malcolm), Anne McCormick Covington (Stansill), and Jane McCormick McHann (Phillip); her grandchildren, Russell Wood Chambliss (Beau), Ruth Wood Garrett (Andy), Malcolm Barboro Wood, Jr., Emily Houston Sharpe, Elizabeth Sharpe Zanca (Peter), Caroline Covington Skees (Taylor), and Christian Graves; and her great grandchildren, Julia, Charlotte, and Lucy Chambliss, Harvey Garrett, and Henry Zanca.

Her siblings also survive her: Dr. Jerre White (Wendy) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; the Rev. Joy Pruett of Sautee, Georgia; and Wayne White (Frederica) of Birmingham, Alabama. She treasured her relationships with many nieces and nephews.

June joined Idlewild Presbyterian Church in 1954.
