Mr. Bierbrodt, 66, of Nora Springs, died Tuesday (April 17, 2007) at the Nora Springs Care Center.
Alfred Lee Bierbrodt was born May 3, 1940, in Faribault, Minn., and graduated from Rochester High School in 1958. On March 2, 1958, he married Carol Spoelstra in Rochester. Mr. Bierbrodt worked at Holcim Bread, Frozen Foods, and served as chief of police in Nora Springs for 14 years, retiring due to illness. He was active with Boy Scouts, umpired ball games, kept stats for football, and was one of the first to start Meals on Wheels in Nora Springs. He was active with the American Heart Association, where he and his wife were named King and Queen; was a Mercy Hospital volunteer; and was on the Interfaith Church Council in Nora Springs for many years.
Survivors include his wife; four children, Al Jr. (Joleen) of Anamosa, Iowa, Terry (Greg) Bass and Peggy (Steve) Toole, both of Mason City, Iowa, and Susan (Mark) Devenport of Osage, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his foster parents, a son, a grandson, a sister and a brother.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, in Nora Springs.
Memorials are preferred to the Al Bierbrodt Memorial Fund.
