Jesse Bridges was born June 17, 1809 in Kentucky. Like his father and brothers, he was a miller, and sometimes farmer. He and his father and brothers moved to Henry County, Indiana, then to Hancock County, then to Johnson county.

He married Hester Dragoo in Brown County, Ohio in 1832, just across the river from where he lived in Kentucky. She was descended from the famous Indian fighter, Belteshazar Dragoo.

By 1850, Jesse and Hester were in Johnson Co., Indiana, as were most of his relatives and some of hers. They had four children. Hester died in 1851 in Johnson County.

Jesse (age 42) remarried in 1851, in Johnson County, Indiana to Mary Baker (age 17), daughter of William (died in Sept. 1850) and Sarah (Castator) Baker. They went to Montgomery County, Iowa, near her family in Page County. They also lived in Adams County for a while.

Jesse and Mary had three daughters. Mary died about 1857.

In 1858, Jesse married her fifteen year old sister, Elmira Baker, in Nodaway County, Missouri, just across the border from Page county, Iowa, where her family lived. Elmira's father had died and her mother had just remarried.

They moved to Gentry County, Missouri, near his brother Ivy, then to Buchanan County, Missouri. They were in St. Joseph, Buchanan County in 1860.

In 1870, they were in Brown county, Kansas.

They were in Crawford County, Kansas, in 1875 and 1880. Jesse and Elmira had three children. Elmira's mother, Sarah (Castator, Baker) Beaver, age 78, was living with them in 1880. Sarah went to Washington with another daughter, Prudence Chase. Jesse was listed as age 70 and Elmira as age 37 on the 1880 census.

Jesse died November 9, 1887 in Crawford County and is buried in Smilie Cemetery, near Mulberry, Kansas. No death or cemetery record has been found for Elmira, but in 1900 she was living with son, William, in Olathe, Kansas. She and William went to Kansas City, Mo. before 1910. Elmira died there and was buried in Forest Hill Cemetery. William married and stayed in Kansas City.
