Evelyn Borland Hollingsworth, who was affectionately known as the Captain by her family, has finished the race and fought the good fight to the end. She died on September 3, 2013 and was escorted by her Guardian Angel to be reunited with her savior Jesus Christ and then her husband Bert Hollingsworth. Evelyn had been married to Bert for 67 years he was the love of her life and she adored him. If she had not had her three children and seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter all living locally she would have let go sooner.
Evelyn was born to Jennie T. McLain and Thomas M Borland on February 4, 1924 in Pinckard, Alabama. She was the baby of 5 and was not ashamed to tell you that she was spoiled rotten. Growing up in a small Alabama town Evelyn met Bert when she was 7 years old as he was visiting his grandmother in Pinckard. They became friends and as mom tells the story, he was the first boy to kiss me.
Evelyn and Bert were married in 1944 in San Antonio, Texas at the First Baptist Church of San Antonio. They eventually settled in Sanford, FL in 1956 where they raised their three children and she poured her love into their lives. Evelyn was a homemaker whose gift was hospitality. Her life revolved around her husband and children and they would learn many of the life's important lessons from her as she loved them unconditionally. As her three children would grow and leave her nest, she would take up Shrimping with her beloved husband. They would spend many nights dipping shrimp at the Haulover Canal so when people came by for a visit she could give packages of shrimp as gifts to her friends. Evelyn is survived by her son's Brad and Thom Hollingsworth and daughter Lisa Hollingsworth Rush, grandchildren, Jessica Hollingsworth Perdomo, Alicia and Brad Hollingsworth, Keilee Rush Ting and Skylar Rush, Britton and Isaac Hollingsworth, and great granddaughter Kensley Starr Ting.
