She was born August 3, 1912, in Donora, Pa., a daughter of the late Joseph and Julia (Pesz) Tyhonas.
She was a member of Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church of Charleroi.
Mrs. Matty is survived by four children: Joan Niccolai of West Brownsville, Georgette Sapko and husband, George of Stockdale, with whom she made her home. George T. Matty and wife, Joyce of West Pike Run and Steve Matty and wife, Deanna of California, Pa.; 11 grandchildren: Kelly Fedeli, Barry and Brian Niccolai, Tracey, Kevin, Christopher Sapko and Suzette Diess, Craig Matty, Sgt. John Danko, Ryan (Scot) Matty and Melonie Shoemaker; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Michael (Mike) Tyhonas of Grandville, Pa.; and a sister, Helen Hall of Arizona.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George J. Matty, April 28, 1993, five brothers, Pete, John, Sam, Steve and Mickey Tyhonas, a sister, Antoniette (Babe) Jordan and one grandson, Stevie Matty.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, April 1, 2007, in the ED MELENYZER FUNERAL HOMES, INC., Roscoe, Pa., where a Parastas Service will be held at 8 p.m. A Panachida Service will be held on Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the Funeral Home followed by The Office of Christian Burial with the Divine Liturgy of Presanctified Gifts at 10 a.m. in the Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church with the Rev. James Ragan as Celebrant. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Coal Center, Pa.
