William J. Berthold, age 84, longtime resident of Two Rivers, died Thursday afternoon, May 17, 2018 at the Manitowoc Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Bill was born April 6, 1934 in Kewaunee County, son of the late John and Christine (Kostka) Berthold. He grew up in Kewaunee, graduated from Kewaunee High School, and entered the U.S. Army in 1954, serving in Japan during the Korean War. After being discharged from active service in 1956, he continued to serve with the Army Reserves for several years. Bill married the former Shirley A. Langley on May 25, 1957 at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Two Rivers. She preceded him in death on August 24, 2009. The couple enjoyed many years of traveling together, and also camping with family and friends. For many years, they camped with friends from the Manitowoc/Two Rivers area who were known as the "Happy Hooligans" camping club. Bill was retired from Hamilton Mfg. of Two Rivers after many years of employment. In his retirement, he volunteered many hours at the Two Rivers Senior Center, most recently driving the Trust Car around for the elderly; he loved playing sheepshead at the center and with other card clubs; enjoyed playing dartball at the center and with several leagues in the area; and he served as an usher for many years at Holy Redeemer/St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church. Bill loved Wisconsin Sports, and was a die-hard Packer, Badger & Brewer fan; he more recently loved to attend all of his grandchildren's many sporting events.

Survivors include his four children: Charlene Hemingway of Memphis, TN, Patrick Berthold of Largo, FL, Tammy (Jeff) Murphy of Freedom, WI and Michael (Marcie) Berthold of Clearwater, FL; six grandchildren: Amber (Osman) Hernandes, Ryan (Courtney) Murphy, Scott (Rachel) Murphy, Sean Murphy, Brody Berthold, Brynlee Berthold; and five great-grandchildren: Connor and Quinn Murphy, Doni and Lucas Delgado, and Esthela Hernandes. He is further survived by one sister-in-law, Doris Berthold of Little Chute; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley; and a brother, Donald.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2018 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3201 Mishicot Rd, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev.
