Elmer George Atrops passed peacefully surrounded by his family singing his favorite Gospel Hymns. After graduating from Sherwood High School in 1937 he worked at Boeing airfield in Seattle during the war before settling back to Sherwood on the family farm where he raised two daughters and two sons. He retired from 30 years at the post office in 1979. Because of his mechanical abilities his retirement included building many homemade tractors and attachments for the farm. His love for Volkswagens included buying two that were wrecked, cuttting them in half and assembling the two good halves back together in his shop. He always carried his trademark smile over the years even during his declining health. He leaves behind two sons; two daughters; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren who adored this gentle giant and will miss him everyday. He was a faithful servant at St. Paul Lutheran Church and he will be remembered for his generous personality and kind heart to all who knew him.
