Lawrence Freeman, 82, Rainbow City, passed away Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016, at Noland Hospital in Anniston. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Forrest Cemetery.
The Rev. Sherill Clontz will be officiating.
Mr. Freeman graduated from Emma Sansom High School in 1951. He was in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and spent most of his time in Alaska. Lawrence was a graduate of Mississippi State with a Master's Degree in Geology. He worked as a micro paleontologist for Exxon in New Orleans, Louisiana.
After moving to Waveland, Mississippi, he was very active in the American Legion and was state commander from 1996 to 1997.
Mr. Freeman retired at the age of 53, which gave him time to travel to all the states and many foreign countries. Lawrence enjoyed the beauty in nature and the animals in God's creation.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grace and Martin Freeman; brother, James (Junior) Freeman; and sister, Lucille Clontz.
Survivors are his sister, Naomi Durham; and chosen brother, Robert McClure. Also surviving him is his sister-in-law, Shirley Freeman, and many nieces and nephews.
Lawrence was a very thoughtful and caring person. He will be missed by all who knew him.
