Allen, Elijah S.--Died Jan 9, 1913 at age 79. Born Dec. 27, 1833 in Fayette County, GA. Married Miss Julia M. Lankford Dec. 5, 1855. She survived him. Ten children were born to them, but 1 son and 4 daughters survive: T.L. Allen of Whitehouse; Mrs. W.J. Wright, Panama; Mrs W.A. Jenning, Park Springs; Mrs. U.W. Prater and Miss Nora Allen of Tyler. He and his family moved to Smith County in 1858. In 1906, they moved to Tyler. Elija was the eldest of 12 children. Two brothers survive: J.M. Allen, Mineola; C.E. Allen, Lindale. He was in the campaigns of his commands during the war, gallant, a loyal confederate soldier that met the strong approbation of his officers and comrades. Mr. Allen has always been a prominent planter and is listed with the few remaining of the old South. Prominent as a citizen and loyal in every sense of the word to the history and glories of the Southland. His post office is Tyler, Texas.
