CHRIS BENSEN, 65, FARMER, DIES OF HEART AILMENT

Long Time Orum Farmer Died Suddenly Last Monday


Chris Bensen, well known farmer of the Orum vicinity, passed away at his home early Monday morning, December 9, after a lingering illness of seven months. His death was said to be the result of a heart disease and took him at the age of 65 years.

Born April 5, 1875 in Rorth Denmark, Christian Bensen was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Parish Church. At the age of seventeen he emigrated to America, arriving in 1892 at Orum. He worked at various points in and out of the state and for a time he resided with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hansen of Orum.

On March 20, 1917 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Minnie Jessen, and since then he has farmed near Orum. He was a charter member of the Orum Danish Lutheran Church, a member of the board for many years, and president of the congregation for some time.

Survivors include the widow; two sons, Albert and Orville of Orum; a stepson, Joe Jessen of Blair; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Albert Jensen of Oakland; five sisters, Agnes, Anna and Karen in Denmark, Mrs. Mathilda Hansen of Blair and Mrs. Marie Mortensen of Des Moines; four brothers, John of Kansas City, Carl and Soren in Denmark and Jacob in Norway; also several grandchildren and many friends.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday by Rev. N. C. Carlsen, Blair Lutheran paster, and interment was made in the Orum cemetery.
