Roscoe D. “Ross” Ackley, 85, of Mansfield, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Altercare in Bucyrus. Ross was born on March 28, 1933 in Edmore, Michigan. He was the son of Alford and Pearl (Sullenbarger) Ackley.

Ross retired after 36 years of employment with General Motors, and he loved seeing his family benefit from his many years there with his new car discount. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Ross married his high school sweetheart, Betty J. Dutt, and they were blessed with nearly 66 years of marriage together. He loved all things sweet and beautiful, and Betty certainly fell into that category. Ross was a devoted and doting husband, a loving father, and an adored grandfather. Family was very important to Ross, and he would do anything for his family, especially his wife, Betty. Ross and Betty had a love for traveling together and enjoyed spending time at their retirement home at Walton Lake. Ross was known for his sense of humor and his many pranks and practical jokes he loved to pull on people, but he was also generous in sharing his skills to fix and build things for family and friends. He was a determined man with a very strong will. He was very involved at the Ontario Free Methodist Church where he served as Youth Director for 30 years, was involved with the Marriage Enrichment group, and with the Social Committee. Ross and Betty enjoyed serving their family and friends with personal catering services over the years. He was a dedicated fan of the Detroit Tigers and Lions, and University of Michigan Wolverines.
Ross leaves behind his wife, Betty (Dutt) Ackley; daughter, Kathy (Rick) Brawley; son, Kevin (Shelly) Ackley; grandchildren, Kris and Kole Ross, Stacey (Bill) Wheeler, Kristy (Tom) Taylor, and Rikki (Rich) James; great-grandchildren, Emma Ross, Alyee Daniel, Trinity James, Carylee Daniel, Hadleigh James, Jaymee Pay, Lane Taylor, Kade Taylor, Daylon Wheeler, and Austin Taylor; great-great grandson, Zayne Daniel; and grand-dogs, Tish and Desi. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Alton, Lloyd, Neil and Forest.

Friends and family may visit from 1:00-3:00 pm on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Road. Funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm.
