O B I T U A R Y.

Ben Pascal Fant, age 77, passed away peacefully at his home in Pelham, AL on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 with his wife, Bette, by his side.
Ben started his career as an Insurance Agent in 1961 in Columbus, GA. He spent 21 years with American National, moving from agent to district manager to home office executive in Galveston, Texas. He then moved to New York Life in October 1982, and became a Lifetime Council Member – one Chairman's Council, eight President's Councils, and 11 Executive Councils.
Ben was a Lenox G.O Rookie of the Year, former AAC representative from President's Council, former #1 EC agent in the Zone, Council Program Guest Speaker, and former President of the Cobb County Life Underwriters. He never missed qualifying for Council, and was a Life Member MDRT.
Ben graduated from Jordan Vocational High School in 1958 and attended Columbus College. His passions included Bass Fishing - he won numerous fishing tournaments across the Southeast; Golf - he played to a 2 handicap in his 30's; Auto Racing - he won his last official drag race competition in Bowling Green, KY at age 69 in his Z06 Corvette; and Music - he was a talented tenor who performed often in churches and theater productions.
Ben was preceded in death by his father, Melvin J. Fant, and his mother, Myrtle Jewett Bowen Fant.
Survivors include Ben's wife, Bette Hearne Fant, and children and step-children: Vernon Scott Fant of Woodstock, GA, Robyn Leigh Fant of Lumpkin, GA, Cindy Menotti Morrison of Cleveland, GA, Jennifer Vos Smith and her husband Michael Smith of Pelham, and Amy Vos Davis and her husband Brian Davis of Pelham.
Survivors also include Ben's grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Lauren Amanda Fant of Brookhaven, GA, Harrison Scott Fant of Roswell, GA, Palmer Elizabeth Fant of Birmingham, AL, Brandy Morrison of Cleveland, GA, and Isabella Smith, Micah Smith, Aria Smith, Victoria Smith, John Isaac Smith, Sophie McLeod, and Lily McLeod, all of Pelham; two brothers, James Fant and his wife Janet Fant of Foster, KY, and Jim (Janet) Fant of Foster, KY; one sister, Kaye Frances Power and her husband Jim Power of Canton, GA; and nephews, Craig Fant of Canton, MS and Ben Fant of Memphis, TN.
A Celebration of Life Service & Gathering will be from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 159 Windsor Lane, Pelham, AL 35124.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Kevin Derryberry Ministries, Inc., 112 Kingsley Court, Alabaster, AL 35007.
