Samuel Levy Bearden, 78, South 11th Street, died at a local hospital Friday 6:15 p.m. after a brief illness. Surviving wife, Mrs. Mattie C. Bearden; daughters, Una B. Morgan, Gadsden and Vivian Stephens, Birmingham; son, Sam A. Bearden, Gadsden; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother, Noah Bearden, Marion. Funeral service 3 p.m. Sunday Collier-Butler Funeral Chapel and burial in Forrest Cemetery. He was a native of Perry County; resident of Etowah County for the past 60 years; member of Twelfth Street Baptist Church and retired from Republic Steel Corporation. Mr. Bearden was a veteran of World War I and a member of Barracks 1237. Collier-Butler Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
