Jennie was the daughter of William Squire and Barbara (Daugherty) Gilmer. She married her husband, Benjamin Clayton McMaster, on 9 March, 1876, in Locust Grove Township, Jefferson County, Iowa, at the home of William Simmons, by Methodist Minister, Rev. Andrew Smith. They had two children: Grace Mae McMaster and John C. McMaster, whom died at the age of 7 months. Jennie died of Consumption at the age of 27.
