John Odean Adams, 88, of Grayson, KY went home to be with his Lord and Savior May 1, 2018. Mr. Adams was born on December 20, 1929 in Hammond, Indiana to William James Adams and Mamie Messenger Adams. Mr. Adams was a graduate of Centertown (KY) High School, attended the University of Kentucky and served in the U.S. Army Corps of Combat Engineers during the Korean War. Mr. Adams actively served the communities where he lived throughout his life. He served as President of the Ohio Co. (KY) Fish and Game Club, President of the Hartford Jaycees, and as Chairman of the award-winning Ohio Co. Fair Board during the 60’s. Mr. Adams was the first Chairman of the Kentucky Farm Bureau Young People’s Committee. He was a Sunday School teacher for Hartford Christian Church Pairs and Spares Class, and was honored for having the top number of volunteer hours in the building of the present church. Mr. Adams was the Ohio County Conservation Officer with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife from 1962-1969 until he moved to Grayson, Ky to serve as Superintendent of Camp Robert C. Webb Conservation Camp at Grayson Lake.

In Grayson, Mr. Adams worked at Camp Webb until his retirement in 1992. He was well-known as Timekeeper for the East Carter County High School girls and boys home basketball games for 40 years. He served as President of the Hitchins Athletic Boosters, East Carter Football Boosters, the Carter County Fair Board and the Carter County Fish and Game Club. His family owned the Sears Catalog Store in Grayson. Mr. Adams was known for his sweet corn, pumpkins, watermelons and fall décor where he sold at the Grayson Farmer’s Market in recent years. He was a member of the Gregoryville Christian Church.

John Adams is survived by his daughter, Karen (Patrick) McKnight of Lexington, and sons, Jeff (Peg) Adams of Ashland, Terry (Ginger) Adams and Larry (Tammy) Adams of Grayson; 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and many beloved friends and extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Adams, his parents, and his sisters Ruth Moorman and Phyllis Midkiff.

To honor his request, Mr. Adams will be buried with military rites during a graveside ceremony on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the Kentucky Veteran’s Cemetery Northeast. A Celebration of Life will be held for Mr. Adams Sunday, May 20, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Gregoryville Christian Church. In lieu of flowers and gifts, Mr. Adams and the family suggest donations be made to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Avenue, Ashland, KY 41101 or Gregoryville Christian Church, 3333 US Highway 60, Grayson, KY 41143.
