JUANITA'S OBITUARY
Juanita Adelina Burns, 89 of Columbus, MS passed away, Saturday, May 5, 2018 at her residence. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lowndes Funeral Home.

Juanita Burns passed away at her home in Columbus Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the age of 89. She was born in Gulfport, Mississippi on September 2, 1928 to William Thomas Valdez of San Bernardino, California and his wife, Anita Ida Mae Williams, a native of Gulfport. Shortly after her birth, they moved to California where his family was. During her childhood she lived at different times in California and Mississippi. She attended Gulfport High School before her marriage in 1946 to Bob Burns. They were married March 24, 1946 in Gulfport and later moved to his home in Columbus.

Juanita enjoyed travelling and before his death in 2011, she and Bob travelled extensively in their motorhomes across the U.S., including Hawaii, up into Canada and down into Mexico and Central America, always taking some of their children and grandchildren with them on their trips. She continued to travel quite a bit with family and friends, including trips with the “55 and Overs’’ from Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

She loved many kinds of music, especially Big Band Music and movies from the 1930s to the present.

In addition to her parents and step-father, Detroit Hix, she was predeceased by her husband of sixty-five years, Robert G. (Bob) Burns. She is survived by their five children: Carolyn Burns Kaye; Anna Burns Peters (Gary); Jimmy Burns; Susie Burns Lindsey (John); and Jane Burns Jordan (Bo) all of Columbus; and her brother, Jimmy Hix (Pat) of Venice, California.

She is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Ryan Neault (Diana), Jessica Neault Hartman (Matt), Susanna Santos Oglesby (David); Robert Santos, Jeremy Burns, Justin Lindsey, Mikey Lindsey (Stephanie), Becky G. Hutcheson (Jess), Gary Peters, Jr., Jim Burns and Joesy Burns; six step-grandchildren: Johnny Peters, Judy Peters Hayes, Billie Jean Peters Tingle, Amy Jordan, B.J. Ferraro, and Connie Jordan; Eleven great grandchildren: Gilly, Madeline and Cade Hartman; Amber Neault; Thomas Oglesby; Isabella and Amelia Santos; Skyler and Taylor Lindsey; and Evey Hutcheson; one great-great granddaughter, Evelynn Rose O’Neill and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She leaves a legacy of deep love of family and traditional values which she instilled in all her children and grandchildren and she was very comfortable in her faith in God. She was widely known for her beautiful smile and sweet disposition.Mrs. Burns was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Garven Burns; mother, Anita Williams Valdez; and father, William Thomas “Frank” Valdez. She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Kaye, Anna Peters, Susie Lindsey and Jane Jordan; son, Jimmy Burns; brother, Jimmy Hix; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and six step-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel, Columbus, MS with Bro. Steve Lammons officiating.
