Fred passed away at Point Manor Personal Care Home of Point Marion, PA Fred was the son of the late Howard and Maude (Moon)Benson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Benson in 2001 and two brothers, Paul Benson and James Benson. Mr. Benson graduated from the former Terra Alta High School, where he played football and bass drum in the school band, after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and National Guard. Following his stint in the service, he worked for several years at Sterling Faucet. In the 1960s he purchased the family business, Benson Hardware, from his father and operated it until his retirement in 1994. The hardware store was a Benson family business for over 40 years. Fred enjoyed traveling with his family, Fred was a very talented woodworker who could build nearly anything, and invented several very handy creation around his house for everyday use. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jay and wife Diane Benson of Morgantown; two grandchildren, Ian and wife Kelly Benson of New Zealand, and Melissa and husband Jerry Schiren of Annapolis, MD three great-grandchildren, Jamie Schiren of Myrtle Beach, S.C. Jason Schiren and Joshua Shiren of Annapolis, MD and a sister, Barbara Gifford of Richmond,VA. He will be cremation he will be in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his wife, Lucille Benson.
