Jib married his wife Frances Eleanor Craw (Cerro Gordo) on January 18, 1942, in Old Monroe, Missouri. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on February 12, 1942, where he served closely with and under General Patton, arriving in France on D-Day plus 6. Jib achieved the rank of T4 and received many commendations for repairing US tanks under active and direct enemy fire so the Allied forces could continue advancing. He was honorably discharged on November 6, 1945.
Jib and Frances made their home in Bement, raising their three children: Jon (Joanne) Adams of Bement, Shelia (Ken) Purcell of Monticello, and Geni (John) Heider of Monticello. He is survived by his 3 children, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and 5 step-great grandchildren.
Jib worked for W.A. Drake, John Deere implement dealer in Bement. He later worked for J.R. Heath and Son John Deere implement dealer in Monticello as parts manager – retiring in 1982. Staying very active after retirement, Jib spent many hours mowing yards, restoring antique John Deer tractors, restoring cemeteries and repairing grave stones; as well as countless hours enjoying his grandchildren and great grandchildren. A nature lover, Jib kept the squirrels and birds well taken care of and also enjoyed raising bees.
A man of few words, his complete and unconditional love for his family was always felt and understood. The family would like to thank Harbor Light Hospice and Maple Point for their excellent support and care.
A graveside service with Military Rites will be held in Bement Township Cemetery at a later date with Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello handling the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Harbor Lights Hospice or Maple Point Assisted Living.
