Brother of Harry Toulmin, Secretary of State of Kentucky and first federal judge in Alabama.

Some family trees show him buried in Spring Hill cemetery because his name is on the marker there but he was not buried here. He died in England.

He married Amy Jane Honeychurch (or Honeycutt) (born 18 MAY 1789 Falmouth, Cornwall, England; died 3 JUN 1823 • near St. Stephens, Washington Co., Alabama; memorial marker at E side of Spring Hill Cemetery, Mobile, Alabama).

Mobile Register and Journal, March 8, 1844, page 2, column 5: Died on Wednesday night, Mrs. Ann Toulmin, consort of J.B. Toulmin, Esq., of this city.

John B. Toulmin owned various properties in the city of Mobile, including at one time what was known as the "Old Spanish Dwelling," called the oldest house in Mobile (circa 1780) at the time it was demolished for the U.S. Government's destructive "Urban Renewal" plan.

He died in England in 1860, although several family trees show his death as 1869 apparently from a misdated newspaper clipping. Many family trees show his death as occurring at Spring Hill, Mobile Co., AL., in 1860 apparently because his name is on the memorial cenotaph marker at Spring Hill Cemetery.
