John was born December 18, 1934 in Fairbury, IL the son of Fred and Caroline Kuenzi Haas. He married Edna Louise Kaufman, September 2, 1962 in Silverton, OR. She survives in Fairbury.
Also surviving are his children, John (Connie), Julie (Dale) Cagley, Jerrold (Sally), Janine, all of Fairbury, Jeff (Angie), Aurora, Jason, Jamey, both of Fairbury, Jolene (Jay) Mueller, Sibley, Jeremy (Michelle), Pontiac and Justin (Amy), Chatsworth, thirty-one grandchildren, one great grandson, two sisters, Caroline Shelby, California, Mary Slagel, Fairbury, one brother-in-law, Paul Fortna, Urbana and one sister-in-law, Judy Haas, Florida.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two grandson, Tyler Joseph Mueller “T.J.” and John Jacob Haas “J.J.”, one granddaughter, Caitlyn Louise Haas, two brothers, Fred and Nelson Haas, one sister, Janet Fortna.
John was a lifetime farmer and truck driver. He served two years in the US Army and was stationed for 18 months in Kaiserslautern, Germany. He was a lifetime member of the North American hunting club, National Rifle Association and Illinois State Rifle Association. He was an avid hunter, firearm, antique tractor and Ford enthusiast.
He attended the German Apostolic Christian Church, Fairbury.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury. A private service will be held Thursday, May 3, 2018 with the ministers of the German Apostolic Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in East Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.
