Humphrey, Edward Porter, 72, of Cary NC, died October 27, 2015 in Raleigh NC of aorta aneurysm-related complications following a period of declining health.

Born in Mercer Co. KY, he graduated from Central High School in Knoxville TN. He received his B.A. in English literature from Yale and a M.S. in Library Science from the University of Maryland. He served as a research librarian in the Special Collections section of the Library of Congress in Washington DC. Later he and his first wife Johanna ran a tax consulting and preparation business in the Washington-Bethesda area. A veteran, he was company clerk in a US Army unit stationed near the demilitarized zone in Korea. He was predeceased by his sister, Sally Reed Humphrey of Winchester VA, and is survived by his brothers Thomas M. Humphrey and wife Mitzi of Midlothian VA and Lewis C. Humphrey and wife Pat of Birmingham ALA, and extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Following a brief graveside service, he will be buried at 11 a.m. November 27 in Louisville Kentucky's historic Cave Hill Cemetery in the Humphrey family plot next to his parents, Dr. Edward C. and Ruth M. Humphrey.
