Mrs. Carrie Norton Corse, 90, widow of F. Dudley Corse, a resident of Sandy Creek since early childhood, died Monday night at the Mannsville Nursing Home where she had been a patient since last July.
Funeral services will be held (today) Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Weston-Woodard Funeral home. The Rev. Kendall Scouten, of the First Methodist Church, Sandy Creek, will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in the spring.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. William J. (Ellen) Potter,
Jr., of Sandy Creek; three grandchildren, William J. Potter, HI, of Syracuse; Mrs. Jack C. (Mary Ellen) Neal of psilanti, Mich., Miss Martha C. Potter of Watertown; one great grandchild, David Nelson Neal of Ypsilanti; and two nieces and one nephew.
Mrs. Corse was born in Pulaski on Sept. 17, 1869, the daughter of John Fletcher and Harriet Stokes Norton. At a very young age she moved to Sandy Creek with her parents. She was graduated from Sandy Creek High School in 1887 and was recently honored, as the oldest living graduate.
She was married to F. Dudley Corse in Sandy Creek on Aug. 3, 1898, with whom she was associated in the Sandy Creek News and the developement of the Corse Press. Following the death of her husband May 14, 1929, she became publisher of the "News" and continued to operate the printing business with the assistance of her son-in-law, William J. Potter, until it was reorganized and incorporated in 1942.
Prior to her marriage she taught district schools and primary grades in Sandy Creek.
She was an active member of the First Methodist Church and a former superintendent of the church school primary department. She held various offices in the church and was treasurer of the church for more than 25 years. She was a past president of the Ladies Wednesday Club, and of the W.S.C.S. of the church
