"INTERRED AT CALVARY - Mary Harriet Popeney Laid to Rest Friday - Mary Harriet, wife of Henry Popeney, who died Tuesday, was interred at Calvary cemetery Friday morning, after a requiem high mass at St Titus' church and an eloquent and feeling funeral sermon by Rev Father Curley, in which he paid a high tribute of praise to the many virtues of the departed. The deceased had been ill for about a year with consumption, and though her sufferings at times were intense, she bore them with Christian fortitude. She leaves a husband and three children, the eldest being but 4 years old and the youngest a 1-year-old babe. She is also survived by her mother, Mrs Stephen Meagher; one sister, Miss Fannie Meagher, and five brothers - John, Michael, James, Joseph and Gabriel. The obsequies were attended by a large concourse of friends, who, by their presence, indicated the esteem in which the deceased had been held. The floral offerings were elaborate and beautiful, many set pieces being sent by home and out of town friends. Mr Popeney, husband of the deceased, was a former compositor on the HERALD, but of late has been employed in the local office of the Metropolitan Insurance company. He has the sympathy of the entire community in his sad bereavement. Messrs P J Murphy, D J Kelly, John M Dunn, S J McCauley, Edward F Ricke and Robert J Fisher were the pall bearers." (Titusville Morning Herald, Nov 14, 1896, p.4)
