Abby Elizabeth Allen Rice, 52, died at her home in Grimes, Iowa, Saturday, November 5, 2016. She was born January 19, 1964 in Des Moines, the daughter of Bob and Ruth Allen.
Abby attended Dowling High School in West Des Moines, graduating in 1982. Following, she attended Simpson College in Indianola. Abby then worked for Bob Allen Company in their sales department.
She will be remembered for her witty sense of humor, infectious laugh and magnetic personality. She was a devoted mother who was immensely proud of her three kids. A lifelong animal lover, she was either surrounded by horses or bonding with her beloved dog Jackson. Abby was also the quintessential "people person" and loved doing things for others. Her friends and family will miss her beautiful spirit daily.
She is survived by husband Austin Rice, Jr.; children Liz, Trey and Taylor, also of Grimes; sister Kelly Allen (Kevin) Welsh, Dallas, Texas; brother Matt Allen (Denise Gustaveson), Des Moines; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Bob Allen, and mother, Ruth Allen. What a reunion that must have been!
A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines, Iowa 50266. The family will greet friends at the church 1 hour prior to the service. A private family interment will occur earlier in the day.
