Lena Margaret Testerman of Roanoke passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, April 23, 2018. She was born July 4, 1926 in Wythe County, Virginia. Lena was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Dorcas (Steffey) Testerman; a brother, Floyd R. Testerman and a great-nephew Mica Gladwell.
Lena is survived by sisters Patsy Testerman of Roanoke, Violet Testerman of Harrington, DE and Carolyn Huddle of Roanoke; brothers John Testerman (Helen) of Ockawaha, FL, James B. Testerman (Barbara) and Douglas L. Testerman of Harrington, DE; nieces and nephews Stephen Testerman and Rebecca Wilson (Dean) of Maryland, Jimmy Bales, Patty Huffman (Doug) and Terri Alley (David) of Roanoke, Laura Testerman Renshaw (Jerry) of Hillsborough, NC, Sandy Ryder (Greg) of Milford, DE, April Wright (Kevin) of Felton, DE, Aaron Testerman of Florida and Deanna Garrett of West Virginia. Also surviving are 13 great nieces and nephews and 6 great-great nieces and nephews.
Lena, a long time resident of Roanoke, was retired from the Roanoke City Clerk of Circuit Court’s office with 56 years of service. She was an active member of Melrose Baptist Church and the Roanoke Valley Democratic Women’s Club. Lena enjoyed travel, reading, tending her petunias, and family. She leaves a lasting impression on all who knew her, most especially her family.
The family wishes to thank her doctors and the staff of Carilion Hospice for their help during this time.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 25, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Oakey’s Roanoke Chapel. Family will also receive friends Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat, VA. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. at Lindsey Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Sprouse and Rev. Brenda Rowe officiating. Interment will be at Fairview United Methodist Church cemetery in Rural Retreat, VA.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the “Taking Care of God’s House” fund at Melrose Baptist Church.
