Norman George Alvis, 85, of Fort Collins, died April 4, 2007, peacefully at his home.

Norm was born July 17, 1921, in Manson, Iowa, to Edward and Nora Schonberger.

From 1942 through 1946, Norm served in the U.S. Navy, and achieved radioman 2nd class.

In 1948, Norm graduated from Iowa State University.

On June 1, 1952, he married Betty Sites in Biloxi, MS and they were married for 54 years.

In 1948, Norm worked as a sales engineer for Wagner Electric Corp. in St. Louis, MO, and New Orleans, LA. In 1954, he went to work for Woodward Governor in the capacity of applications engineering in Rockford, IL, becoming managing director for Woodward's Slough, England, Manufacturing and Sales facility. Norm then returned to Fort Collins with Woodward and held the roles of manager of engineering, ultimately retiring as vice president. Norm had 33 years of service at Woodward.

Norm enjoyed the computer and golf with his breakfast club friends.

Norm is survived by his wife, one son and 4 daughters, 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today at Allnutt Hunter Chapel in Loveland. A private family interment will be at Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins Monday, April 9, 2007.
