About two weeks ago, he and his wife went to Galva, Iowa, and were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ellis when Mr. Hitchcock began to fail and was brought home on Sunday.

Lucius served as a private in the Civil War in Co. B, 11th Wisc. Regiment, and in Co. B, 33rd Wisconsin Regiment, being a year and a half in the service.

He and his bride came to Ida County, Iowa, in 1869, almost a decade before the railway came to Ida Grove, being before the town of "Ida" (Village of Ida) was founded. He settled on a farm bringing his wife and baby daughter in a lumber wagon from Denison, Crawford County, Iowa. In 1881, Mr. Hitchcock moved into Ida Grove and for many years followed the trade of barbering. In 1922, he served as the city marshal under the administration of Mayor, J. M. Rees.
