Born on May 13, 1925 in Scranton, she was the 9th of 11 children born to Anthony and Anna (Tierney) Langan. Orphaned at age 13, she moved to Stroudsburg to live with her sister Ruth Tarr and to be a Nanny to her three daughters.
She worked for many years at Hughes printing while raising her 8 children before falling ill to cancer in 1966. After successful treatment she returned to work at Hughes. After her retirement she focused on raising her grandchildren and caring for the children of many family friends. She was an active member of St. Matthew’s parish and member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed making home stitched quilts, working in her yard, reading and spending weekends at Sandy’s Beach on the Delaware River with family and friends.
Clare is survived by her children, Lewis C. Strunk III of Stroudsburg, Carol M. Hutson and husband Mark of Marshalls Creek, William R. Strunk and wife Irlene of Stroudsburg, Joanne P. Strunk Walsh and husband Harold "Harry" of Marshalls Creek , Jeffrey P. Strunk and wife Garyl of Marshalls Creek and Jon P. Strunk and wife Anne of Lake Ariel; 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Steve Knott; and son, Michael K. Strunk.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30AM Saturday, April 28, at St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, 78 Ridgeway Street, East Stroudsburg. There will be a visitation for family and friends on Saturday, April 28, from 12:30 to 2:00PM at the William Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. Private burial will take place at Laurelwood Cemetery in Stroudsburg.
