1910 – 2001
Leo Audra Walden, 91, beloved husband and father, passed away October 29, 2001. He died at home; surround by his loved ones, after a long illness that he courageously fought.
Born March 13, 1910, in Middlesboro, Kentucky, he later moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Where he resided for 15 years, before moving with his family to Santa Monica, California, where he lived for 46 years.
Leo inherited a legacy that began with the exploration and settling of the Cumberland Mountains. He grew up around Jellico and Stinking Creek Tennessee, and graduated from Jellico High School in 1931. He continued his education at Williamsburg College, Kentucky before he began his career as an educator following in his father's footsteps. Leo was not content with teaching, so he pursued other avenues of opportunities. He was a security officer for the Atomic Energy Plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, an owner/operator for a moving and storage company in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, a structure mechanic at Douglas Aircraft Company, El Segundo, CA. and finally found his niche in life at the North American Van Lines Co. where he retired in 1977.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Eliza Gaylor Walden and brothers Ken, Otis and Niles. He leaves behind his wife, Lois; Sons Ronald of Simi Valley, Harold of Paramount, Jerry of Santa Monica, and a Daughter Bobbie Reichstein of Agoura Hills, CA., six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and brothers Gaylor of Indianapolis, Indiana, Douglas of Cincinnati, Ohio and a sister Faye Mc Mullen of Blue Ash, Ohio.
A beautiful life that came to an end, Leo was well liked by all who knew him. In our hearts a memory will always be kept, of one we loved, and will never forget.
A celebration and memorial of Leo's life will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, November 29, 2001 at First United Methodist Church, 1008 Eleventh St. Santa Monica, CA. 90403
