MARINA - Ivan Brenneman passed away peacefully Monday morning, April 2, 2012 at the age of 85. He was born on July 15, 1927 in Kalona, Iowa to Ephraim B. Brenneman and Anna Faye Christner. He was one of nine children, 4 sisters and 4 brothers.
He was a retired war veteran with the U.S. Army whose overseas tours, beginning in 1946, carried him to Germany, Korea, and Vietnam. It was in Echwege, Gemany where he met and married Paula Magareta Zobel in 1948. They had three daughters, Evelyn Magareta, born in 1949, Marilyn Jane (Deffenbaugh) (born 1951 - passed away 2008) and Lorraine I born in 1953.
Ivan later retired in 1987 from the City of Monterey as a Field Office Assistant, and after he spent almost 20 years volunteering as a docent for Elkhorn Slough.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ephraim and Anna Christner Brenneman, seven siblings, Virgil Brenneman, Gaylord Brenneman, Evan Brenneman, David Brenneman, Mary Brenneman Gingerich, Mildred Brenneman Yoder and Lulu Brenneman Miller.
A loving husband and father, Ivan leaves behind Paula Brenneman, his wife of 64 years; two daughters, Evelyn and Lorraine; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, one brother, Milford Brenneman.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Marina United Methodist Church, 281 Beach Road, Marina, California.
