Caleb Kurtz, an old pioneer resident of Springfield Township, died February 11, 1889, aged 73 years, 6 months and 21 days. Mr. Kurtz was born in York County, Pennsylvania, and came to Richland County, Ohio in 1836. Since then he has resided a part of the time at Mansfield and Galion and for the last 22 years in Springfield Township. The funeral took place at Ontario and the services were conducted by Rev. Hill, Lutheran pastor at Crestline. Deceased was a member of the Disciple Church, a life-long Democrat, and had been a subscriber of the Shield & Banner for fifty years or over."
