Dorothy Haugen, 76, of St. James, died Jan. 20, 2001, at St. James Health Services Hospital.

Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at East Sveadahl Lutheran Church, St. James. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-11 a.m. Wednesday at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James; and continues one one hour prior to services at the church.

She is survived by daughters, Mary, and husband, Bill Stephenson of Aurora, Colo., Nancy Haugen of Jackson, Annette Haugen of Watertown, N.Y.; sister, Ruth Hanson of Butterfield; brother, Raynold and wife, Helen Anderson of Lake Crystal, six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by parents; stepmother, Ann (Tillman) Anderson; husband, Elward; and other relatives.

She was born Nov. 8, 1924, in St. James, to Alfred O. and Ellen (Lundstrom) Anderson. She grew up in St. James, attending District 58. She graduated from St. James High School.

On Dec. 30, 1947, she married Elward Ivanhoe Haugen at East Sveadahl Lutheran Church in St. James. She worked as a nursing assistant at St. James Catholic Hospital, Watonwan Memorial Hospital, and as a trained medical aide at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Home for 34 years.

She was a member of East Sveadahl Lutheran Church, belonging to Evangelical Lutheran Women and the prayer chain, the Christian Women's Bible study, and Church Women United. She also was a member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Ellingsburg Zoettle Post 1914 and was a past chaplain of the women's VFW auxiliary.
