Niles Daily News, September 13, 1922 - EVAN BOWEN HAS ANSWERED CALL TO HOME ABOVE - Built the Electric Line Between Niles and Mineral Ridge -

Mr. Evan Bowen who has made his home in Niles for the past 10 or more years and who was held in the highest esteem as a citizen and friend, passed away at the home of his only daughter, Mrs. Rollin Haun, of Second Street at 6 o'clock Tuesday night. Deceased had been in failing health for some weeks, so that his demise was not unexpected.

Mr. Bowen was born at Chippewa, Medina county, O on July 29, 1847. He was an electrical engineer by occupation and followed that line of work for many years. He was in charge of the laying of the electric line between Niles and Mineral Ridge which was the first system in Trumbull county. He also assisted in the laying of the various track systems of the old Mahoning Valley line in Youngstown. Later he was employed as electrician at the Niles water works plant but for the past two years has been retired.

Fraternally Mr. Bowen was affiliated with the Odd Fellows and Pythian orders. When he reached the age of 21 years he affiliated with the Odd Fellow order in East Akron and at the time of his death was a member of Appollo lodge. He was the wearer of a 50 year veteran button presented him by that lodge several years ago. He was always interested in the welfare of both of the orders with which he held affiliation.

Funeral services will be held at the Haun home Friday morning at 10 o'clock after which the motor cortege will go to East Akron cemetery, where short services will be held at the chapel prior to the commitment. The Akron Odd Fellows will conduct their ritualistic services there as had been expressed in a request by the deceased prior to his death. Mr. Bowen's wife preceded him in death two years ago.
