Betty’s family moved to the Bay Area in her childhood. She attended El Cerrito High School. When she was 19, she met love of her life, Robert Barnhill, who was serving in the Navy during WWII. He loved Betty for her wit, humor and sarcasm. They wed Dec. 19, 1946.
Betty and Robert moved around the Bay Area over the years, but they made Fairfield their final home in 1978. She worked at Emporium Capwell which later evolved into Macy’s from which she retired. Betty loved to host parties and attend art shows. She made candy every winter with her children and enjoyed sharing it with her friends. Summers were filled with swimming in her pool and the Christmas season was defined by her Christmas Eve dinners. Later in life, she loved to golf and was involved with Tai Chi at the Fairfield Senior Center.
She taught her family to always be on time and have proper etiquette, but she also taught them humor, delight and laughter. She is remembered for the laughter she brought wherever she went.
Betty is survived by her five children, Judy Fleck (Chuck), John Barnhill, Jane Hardy (Nathan), Kim Barnhill and Karen Hardy (Clark); eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Barnhill; son, David Barnhill.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 14, 2018, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 806 Travis Blvd., Fairfield, California.
