LDS, Party Leader, Dies at 66

E P. Monson Succumbs In Logan Home

LOGAN — Ezra Peter Monson, 66, LDS church worker and political leader for many years in Franklin and Bingham counties in Idaho and brother of E. E. Monson, Utah's secretary of state, died Saturday at &;50 p.m. at his home, 475 North Fourth East street, following a brief illness.

Mr. Monson served as a member of the Idaho state house of representatives for two terms, from 1916 to 1920, after which he represented Franklin county in the Idaho State senate. In 1923 he returned to the house of representatives on appointment. In Franklin, Idaho's oldest community, he had served as mayor and justice of the peace.

Served U.S.

From 1923 to 1925, he was receiver for the United States land office in Blackfoot, Idaho, and from 1931 to 1934 he was registrar in the same office. During his extensive political career he served on numerous important legislative committees in Idaho.

Mr. Monson was born September 30, 1874, in Richmond, a son of Christian Hans and Ella Jensen Monson. He married Olive Smart Parkinson, October 16, 1895, in Logan LDS temple.

From 1900 to 1908 he servedas bookkeeper for Oregon Lumber company. From 1909 to 1923 he operated general merchandise stores in Franklin, Idaho, and Amalga, Utah, and from 1925 to 1931 he operated a grocery business in Blackfoot.

Active In Church

Active in LDS church affairs he served as clerk of Franklin LDS ward, as superintendent of Sunday schools of Oneida and Franklin LDS stakes and as a member of the bishopric of Blackfoot First LDS ward from 1924 to 1935.

At the time of his death he was a high priest of Cache LDS stake and a member of Logan Fifth LDS ward. During the past five years, since he moved to Logan, he had served as an officiator in Logan LDS temple.

Surviving are his widow of Logan; eight sons and daughters, Ezra Parkinson Monson of Blackfoot, Idaho: Matthias T. and Roland P. Monson and Mrs. Irma M. Stuart of Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Carol M. Jones of Dayton, Idaho; Franklin D. Monson of Burley, Idaho; Mrs. Evelyn M. Meyers of Sugar City, Idaho, and Samuel C. Monson of Logan; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and the following borthers and sisters: Mrs. Eva M. Parkinson of Franklin, Idaho: Fred L. Monson of McCammon, Idaho; Mrs. Amanda Wright of Blackfoot, Idaho; Mrs. Rachel Allen of Cove, Cache county; Mrs. Sarah Russell of Tabor, Alta., Canada; F. Le Roy Monson, Mrs. Chersla M. Gilgen and Mrs. Eliza Kerr of OGden, Mrs. Annie Whitehead of Logan, Mrs. Marinda Skidmore of Brigham City, Aaron A. Monson of Preston, Idaho and Dr. E. E. Monson of Salt Lake City.
