Billy David Jolley, age 91, of Cliffside, died Monday, April 9, 2018 at Hospice House of Rutherford County.

Born March 7, 1927 in Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Meredith T. Jolley and Betty Guffey Jolley.

He was a member of Cliffside Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and member of the Brotherhood. Bill was a member of the Cliffside Masonic Lodge. He graduated from Cliffside High School in 1944 and was a Gardner Webb graduate. Bill was a WWII Navy veteran serving on USS Commencement Bay and Carrier Escort 105. He retired from USPS as a Postal Clerk after 27 years of service and was a Funeral Service Assistant with McKinney-Landreth & Carroll Funeral Home for 15 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mary Mauney Jolley; and one sister, Margaret Curtis.

Survivors include two daughters, Juanda J. Sanchez of Boiling Springs, Margo J. Matheny and husband Michael of Wilkesboro. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Skip Matheny and wife Timshel, Logan Matheny and wife Leslee; and 6 great grandchildren, Jude Matheny, Ambrose Matheny, Lazarus Matheny, Cosmas Matheny, Ignatius Matheny and Amos Matheny.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Cliffside Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Eligin officiating.

Inurnment will follow the service at Cleveland Memorial Park with military honors rendered by Rutherford County Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
