Edith Gatton Alland Bilby

1916-2003

A memorial service for Edith Gatton Alland Bilby, 87, of Graham will be Saturday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur.
Bilby died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, in Wichita Falls.

Born Sept. 28, 1916, in Fort Worth to Arthur and Birdie Fisher Gatton,

she was a retired school teacher who taught for more than 20 years. During her teaching career, she taught six grades in a one room school in Greenwood. She received her master’s degree from North Texas State University.

She ran a dairy farm following the death of her first husband while raising three sons. She also worked as a laboratory technician at the Decatur hospital. She attended the Memorial Christian Church in Graham.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Gilbert V. Alland and Monroe Bilby; a son, Jim W. Alland; a brother, Arthur F. Gatton Jr. and one sister, Imogene Gatton.

She is survived by two sons, Bill R. Alland of Houston and Tom F. Alland of Midlothian, Va.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
