Douglas K. Davis Sr., 55, of Mio passed away into the arms of the Lord at McLaren Bay Region, Bay City, with his family at his side Thursday, March 29, 2018.

Douglas was born at Flint Osteopathic Hospital on Oct. 9, 1962, in Flint, the son of Donald F. and Janet C. (Cox) Davis Jr. Graduating from Atherton High School of Burton in 1981, Doug went on to earn his degree in automotive and diesel at Lincoln Technical Institute, Indianapolis, Ind., graduating in 1984.

Doug spent the next 22 years living in and around the Secord Lake/Gladwin area working in marine repair. During his time in Secord Township, Doug started his own marine repair shop, Doug's Dam Repair Shop, which eventually became what is now known as the Secord Marine Center, shaking many hands through business in Mid-Michigan.

Moving to Mio in 2006, he made many friends, sharing strength, hope and experience around the community. In 2011, he was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer, but God granted him six more blessed years to do more of the things he enjoyed — cars, boats, fishing and his family.

Doug passionately dedicated much of his life, time and efforts to recovery and educating others to eliminate the stigma of addiction. He was an inspiration with local AA groups in Gladwin, Ogemaw, Roscommon, Crawford and Oscoda counties. With his help, the only NA group was started in Oscoda County. His Fellowships will surely miss him as recent meetings were dedicated to him for his 21 years of service and commitment. Through his caring endearment, Doug became a recovery coach for Northern Michigan Substance Abuse Services, then subsequently a certified Michigan peer support specialist working as the Oscoda County Virtual Health System peer support specialist for AuSable Valley Mental Health and in Tawas City. As part of the Community Living Supports staff, he was instrumental in working with consumers and families and making valuable contributions to the programs. Doug was also part of the Coalition of Hope's planning committee.

Left to cherish Doug's memory, goodwill and accomplishments are his significant other of 20 years, Linda Smith of Mio; his son, Douglas K. Davis Jr. of Mount Pleasant; his daughter, Dianah K. Davis (Matt) of Saginaw; his brother, Donald K. Davis Sr. of Luzerne; two grandchildren, Pebbles and Jaydin; two aunts, Sharon Schmidt of Saginaw and Sandra (Chuck) Bonow of Lewiston, Minn.; and a nephew, Donald K. (Rylee) Davis Jr. of Alma. Doug also leaves behind his ride-along shotgun and closest companion, his dog, Dude.

He rejoices with both loving parents, who preceded him in death.

Honoring the family's wishes, cremation has taken place and memorial services will be conducted by Pastor Cody Gascho on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at 1 p.m. at Praxis Church, 331 N. Mount Tom Rd., Mio, MI 48647.
