Abner Martie Chastain, age 40, a well-known Clifton, SC resident, died at a hospital on Monday morning, October 31, 1938.

Son of Lewis Napolean Chastain (1856–1904) and Hannah Caroline Twiggs Chastain (1862–1948); husband of Minnie Bell Ivester Chastain (1898–1986).

Survivors also include his daughters, Irene Emory, Annie Chastain, Ethel Chastain, and Doris Chastain; sons, Willis Chastain and Cecil Chastain; sisters, Laura E. Chastain Mathis (1887-1939), Dora Jane Chastain (1897-1956), Cecil Chastain Ledford; brothers, Marion Lackin "Pete" Chastain (1885-1950), J.B. Chastain (1900-1976), and Lewis Napoleon "Poley" Chastain (1904-1964)

Also predeceased by a sister, Fannie Esther Chastain Martin (1894–1933).

Funeral services were conducted at 4:00 pm, Wednesday afternoon, at Clifton Central Methodist Church by Rev. T.B. Wilkes, Rev. W.O. Kelly, Rev. James Cobb, and Rev. J.P. Felmet; interment in Zion Hill Cemetery.
